A large, full-service Ontario hospital was expanding with the addition of a brand-new wing. Working closely with their interior designer, Staples Professional helped provide practical and aesthetically pleasing furniture, creating an environment that reflected their mission of transforming into the most modern hospital in the region.
CHALLENGE |
A leading hospital in Southern Ontario was in the process of opening a new patient care wing. At more than 240,000 square feet, the wing was designed to house an emergency department, intensive care, a birthing unit, and mental health programs. The project involved highly visible public spaces and represented a new image for the hospital.
The objective was to provide a welcoming and calm space for visitors and staff. The project team knew that furnishings and design would play a big role in how guests and patients felt and interacted in the new space. Working closely with the hospital committee and their interior design team, the Staples Professional furniture team helped them to execute their vision.

SOLUTION |
Working from project conception to completion, our team of furniture experts collaborated with the hospital to understand their needs. The project spanned approximately two years from design and quotation to final installation. To navigate construction delays, our team worked with the manufacturer to pre-order furniture to store in our warehouses, thereby maintaining lower pricing. Additionally, our team developed furniture standards guides that met hospital requirements and tagged the furniture for easy installation once construction had finished. The clear furniture standards and tagging system proved to be valuable after a construction delay, allowing the project to carry on smoothly.
Staples Professional incorporated our furniture design plan into existing CAD-produced design renderings to showcase how the space would be utilized, coordinated, and installed. We worked hand-inhand with the hospital staff to review and modify design elements throughout the process and provided real-time updates on spending. As the project neared completion, we provided daily progress reports with critical details related to shipments, delivery, staging, and installation.
