Meet Uma Jagadeeshwar, Pricing Manager, Lines of Business

How long have you been working with Staples Professional and what have you enjoyed most about being part of this organization?

I started with Staples in 2007 as a customer care specialist and got promoted to leads coordinator in 2012. In 2013 I moved to the pricing team where I worked as a pricing analyst responding to formal and informal bids. In 2016 I moved to my current role of pricing manager for lines of business.

What I enjoy the most about working at Staples Professional is the team environment. I have the pleasure of working with a great team that is always curious to learn and that takes time to help, support, and appreciate each other.

Throughout my career I have also had great managers who have supported my career goals and growth by providing the required tools and training/coaching sessions.

How have you developed professionally as part of the team at Staples Professional?

My experience in different areas of the company over the last 13 years has enabled me to connect different parts of the business and draw a bigger picture. In my current role, I have to work with both internal and external teams, and I have to make quick decisions and meet hard deadlines. As the pricing manager, I have to analyze numbers to explore different possibilities and outcomes so I can recommend the most favorable outcome to sales leadership team. Since our lines of business grow and change regularly, my team and I participate in significant product and strategy training so we can actively learn, adapt, and evolve with the new products and categories.

With my current role, I have developed leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, and analytical skills. I learn something new every day and share that with my team.

What makes you feel that the work you do at Staples Professional contributes to the company’s overall success?

My team and I work with the sales and merchandising teams to bring in new business. Every time we win new business, learn about new products as our scope gets bigger, and create a new process as we have to quickly adapt and align with the new business goals, I can confidently say that my team and I are a part of a bigger team and contribute to the company’s overall success.

In what ways does Staples Professional inspire you to go above and beyond?

I love my role! I love my team! I love working with numbers!

Every bid is different and that provides an opportunity to learn something new. As bids are accompanied by hard deadlines, that learning must happen within a short turnaround time. It can be challenging to always learn things quickly and constantly adapt and evolve, but that’s a big part of what makes my job interesting.

At Staples Professional I know I can express my ideas freely and try out new things. My manager, my peers, my team members, and my sales friends listen to my ideas. They appreciate if the idea works and they support and learn with me if the idea fails. That encourages me to be creative and inspires me to go above and beyond to be successful and in turn make the supporting team successful.

How does your work impact Staples Professional Customers?

Being a part of the lines of business team, I have opportunities to work with the customers directly and indirectly. My team works with sales team to put together solutions/product selection as per bid requirements. Being a part of the process to put together a package that meets the needs of the customer makes my day (and I do this every day!)!

What changes do you see happening at Staples Professional that excite you?

I’m really excited about our five new product brands. I have always believed that having our own brands of quality products for all lines of business gives us a competitive advantage. We understand how our customers work and use products and I am excited to see the quality products we’ve developed for our own brands. I look forward to seeing how these brands grow in the coming years.

Meet Waheetha Parveen, Sales Applications Specialist

How long have you been working with Staples Professional, and what have you enjoyed most about being part of this organization?

I have been part of Staples Professional since 2015, starting in Customer Care and then got an internal promotion to a new role as a Sales Application Specialist. I enjoy everyday Challenges, which keeps me curious to learn and evolve and provides me with new skills and opportunities like my current role. The best part is the multi-cultural environment, where you have the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and all are treated with respect and equality.

What has been one of the highlights of your professional experience since being at Staples Professional?

On many occasions, I had the opportunity to strategically present the abilities of our E-commerce site by incorporating our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in every possible area, which is highly valued by customers while we compete with multiple vendors and able to win the business.

What makes you feel that the work you do at Staples Professional contributes to the company’s overall success?

In my role, I interact with internal and external customers to provide them with the knowledge and skills to support our Sales goals. I like that every day we learn and grow as a strong team supporting each other and our customers to meet company goals and customer satisfaction.

What skills do you bring to your current role that you hadn’t thought you would use in your role?

I have acquired various new skills in technology to serve internal and external clients. With building these new skills, I was able to transition from a Support specialist to a Trainer and now as a Problem Solver and Consultant.

In what ways does Staples Professional inspire you to go above and beyond?

It is a delight and inspiration to see that the entire organization strives for one goal, which is “Putting the customer first” by “Working together” and “Staying curious,” which aligns with our Values.

How does your work impact Staples Professional Customers?

My approach is finding solutions from a Customer perspective by providing a tailored program for internal and external customers in ease use of our applications, and that leverages the best business outcome.

How long have you been working with Staples Professional and what have you enjoyed most about being part of this organization?

I came in (with Corporate Express) as a maternity leave replacement and here I am after 12 years in total. What I love about my job is the collaborative environment. I love that I have a great degree of control and freedom within my job. I love being appreciated and listened to. Personally, I think my favorite aspect is the open communication we have between all employees and management.

What has been one of the highlights of your professional experience since being at Staples Professional?

Every project presents unique challenges. The diversity of the work that I do ensures that no day is like any other, which makes you feel good when the day is done. Every day is different, and it is a constant adventure.

What makes you feel that the work you do at Staples Professional contributes to the company’s overall success?

Salesforce.com is a vital tool used by many of our department staff to reference our customer details. We have process that flow through each department until the issue is solved. Which means we can be more effective in servicing our customers.

We work on projects and monitor their progress to make sure they’re completed on time and the results are as expected. It is our responsibility to work quickly and methodically to keep everything up and running. Each of our jobs is dependent on another person’s job to achieve the overall productivity of the company and our commitment to the customer.

What skills do you bring to your current role that you hadn’t thought you would use in your role?

12 years of working with Staples Professional has given me the opportunity to work with different levels of staff. The skills and abilities I developed from each project has helped me to work with product owners and project owners in my current job. I like tinkering with technology and understanding exactly how it works. This curiosity and desire to find better solutions is fitting very well with my current job. Attention to detail, Problem solving, Critical thinking, Patience are some of the soft skills we apply in our day to day personal life. These skills are vital when you troubleshoot a task.

In what ways does Staples Professional inspire you to go above and beyond?

I love having a voice. My boss listens to my ideas and the whole team works together to make them happen. We all support each other and work together to offer creative feedback and then make our ideas a reality. I love being appreciated and listened to.

How does your work impact Staples Professional Customers?

As a CRM system administrator, we are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Salesforce.com platform that helps our sales teams to maintain their customer database through sales activity planning, following all the business and customer indicators closely, monitoring progress of their opportunities. With the ability to Convert a lead, Track Customer Interactions, deliver our products and track customer complaints – many of our departments use Salesforce.com Integrations to keep all our Customer Data in one place.
Even though I don’t directly work with customers, as a System Administrator, I know the job I do, helps my colleagues to deliver our commitment to our customer.

I have been with Staples Professional for four and a half years, and I am grateful to be part of an organization that inspires professional growth and development.

What has been one of the highlights of your professional experience since being at Staples Professional?

During my time with Staples Professional, I have had many highlights, but the most recent one is being promoted to a Regional Sales Manager.

What makes you feel that the work you do at Staples Professional contributes to the company’s overall success?

Every day we put the customer first. We work as a team to build strong relationships with our customers by identifying their needs and providing the best solutions.

What skills do you bring to your current role that you hadn’t thought you would use in your role?

As a new manager, I have sharpened and improved my interpersonal skills. These skills have helped me listen and communicate more effectively with my team and provide strong leadership.

In what ways does Staples Professional inspire you to go above and beyond?

Staples Professional has created a great diverse team culture and enables a sense of belonging for all employees. This culture really promotes teamwork and defines our purpose within the company.

Meet Abby Maniks. One of our Marketing Line Of Business Specialists.

Abby Maniks

What aspect of working at Staples Professional most appealed to you when you were looking for employment?

I’ve worked in both B2B and B2C focused organizations, predominantly in a B2C retail marketing setting. This contributed to my wanting to take on the challenge of reaching customers in a B2B space. I was looking to utilize my learnings in my past marketing roles to grow and develop the FS/Breakroom Category. When looking to take up new challenges in a B2B setting, Staples Professional stood out as a highly recognizable company with a good reputation. Naturally it was a good next step in my career.

What makes you feel that the work you do at Staples Professional contributes to the company’s overall success?

As a Marketing Line of Business Specialist for the Facility, Breakroom and Technology categories, I continually collaborate with key stakeholders in Sales, Merchandising and Operations. By working with cross functional teams I’m able to consult with business partners to understand business objectives and effectively create proactive marketing/communication plans to support projects. Ensuring that our objectives are aligned for key product launches, campaigns and initiatives. In this role I’m able to manage projects end to end, bringing ideas through to fruition.

What skills are you bringing to your current role that you hadn’t thought you would use in your role (until now)?

This role allows me to utilize my creativity. I’m able to leverage learnings from campaigns that I’ve run in the past and bring a fresh perspective to how we tackle marketing campaigns at Staples Professional.

In what ways does Staples Professional inspire you to go above and beyond the call of duty?

The greatest asset we have is the people we work with. They are such an inspiring bunch that it really does make a difference in how you approach work. Everyone has a lot of fun working together, constantly testing and learning new things. The team at Staples Professional is supportive and works together to put in work and see positive returns.

How does your work impact Staples Professional Customers?

As a marketing specialist we take customer feedback and make suggested changes to improve customer experience on all our customer touchpoints. Whether it be through offering customers promotions that they love or giving them free products/samples for participating in a contest/giveaway. We constantly have customers asking for more interactive content, promotions and offers. Keeping customers happy and engaged means that we are doing our jobs.
